As AC Milan started the game they immediately rushed forward, Liverpool clearly expected this tactic and had put up an offside trap tactic that worked quite well. In the first half hour some close decisions were made and there even was a disallowed goal. Liverpool then tried to break to the Italian defence with one-two passes between Cisse and Baros, who later on got substituted by Morientes. The biggest chance in the 1st half was for Seedorf, but he shot the ball wide.
The game suddenly changed when Ukranian striker Andriy Shevchenko opened the score just after half time. A free kick was passed into his feet, the striker controlled it and hammered it past the keeper, 1-0. Happy with their lead Milan lost concentration, at least that was their excuse, anyway... after some passing on the right Liverpools Frenchie, Djibril Cisse, scored the equalizer with a solid finish. One minute after the opener, the score was level again, 1-1.
Both sides were cautious now, they knew whoever scored the next goal would probably go away with the win. In the 68th minute it was Christian Vieri who headed in a corner from the right. Both teams did get some small chances after that, the score however remained the same.
I must say it was a very tight game. The goal from Sheva came out of the blue and Valera's goal right after that came just as unexpected (at least for me). That I finally won with a corner was a bit lucky, but that doesn't take away that I'm happy with the win.
